GIRONA
Northern Catalonia’s largest city, Girona is a jewellery box of museums, galleries and Gothic churches, strung around a web of cobbled lanes and medieval walls. Reflections of Modernista mansions shimmer in the Riu Onyar, which separates the walkable historic centre on its eastern bank from the gleaming commercial centre on the west.
CYCLING
Do you know what is in store for you as you start pedalling on the Costa Brava and in the Girona Pyrenees? Kilometres and kilometres of trails along old railway trackbeds (greenways) await you, an ideal family activity, not to mention mountain bike trails that will test you to the limit, all amid varied and spectacular scenery just waiting to be discovered..
GETTING AROUND
The fact that almost one third of the Costa Brava and the Girona Pyrenees is natural protected area should give you a good idea of what you’ll find there: eight spectacularly contrasting natural parks, with just a few kilometres separating the snow-capped Pyrenean peaks from the Mediterranean’s most charming beachesand coves.
And in such a short distance there’s room for fishing villages and high mountain rural towns, for Romanesque monasteries and churches, for Iberian settlements, Greek and Roman ruins, Jewish quarters and mediaeval fortifications, and for the surrealist legacy of Salvador Dalí.
